HMS Star Trek Gallery

The following is a pictorial sample of Star Trek props produced by HMS personnel.
Click on the small pictures to see the larger images

Many of these are of props made before HMS came into being in 1998, when the people in the company were contracted out to other shops, including Prop'er Effects, ISS, etc.

Star Trek

Deep Space 9 pictures:

From "Trials and Tribbleations," these are the classic communicators used by "Lieutenant" Sisko and crew aboard the original Enterprise

And the phasers for "Trials..." which unfortunately didn't see any close-ups

The "Spock-built"[tm:PPC] ray generator, also from "Trials and Tribbleations"

The Bajoran pistol and tricorder

The Klingon hypo, along with the drawing for it

From a Next Generation episode, this was the knife that Worf [with an irreparably damaged spinal column] had requested his son Alexander use on his father in ritual Klingon suicide

Two Bajoran ceremonial knives -- the one on the left is rubber

The Breen helmet

The Cardassian pistol and rifle

There is a picture of a copy of this prop in "Star Trek The Magazine" [the Dec. 1999 issue]; this is the original made by Mike Moore while he was at Prop'er Effects

This is Dr. Bashir's medical device for brain surgery, used in a heroic attempt to save Vedek Bareil's life

An assortment of pens from DS9

The Jem'Hadar pistols [master made by Max Cervantes]

With great ceremony, these vials of ketracel-white were handed out to the Jem'Hadar soldiers by their Vorta masters

Mike Moore working on a Bajoran Orb case

A collection of Odo's buckets

This was the device Garak uses on Odo to prevent him from changing back into his normal sticky-goo state, as a means of extracting information

The Romulan disruptor [made for The Next Generation] and the rifle, made for DS9; even though you didn't see the Romulans use it much -- it was best seen in the episode "The Magnificent Ferengi"

And speaking of the Ferengi, here's the Revised Rules of Acquisition, penned by the Grand Nagus himself while under the influence of a Bajoran Orb

In an early episode of DS9, Sisko becomes obsessed with making timepieces, this is one of them, made mostly of brass

Star Trek Voyager:

In 1995, Mike Moore and Steve Horch set out on a project to update the Federation standard phaser and tricorder then in use on DS9 and Voyager. This was the first try at making a smaller and more sleek tricorder to get away from the more box-like shape, as well as upgrading the electronics with more lights and a better battery unit [where the old tricorder lasts about 15 minutes before a battery change, the current model with far more lights will go for over three hours straight before it starts to lose power. In typical studio use, batteries are changed once a year]

Ron Nomura, the painter of just about all the Federation comm badges and phasers used from Star Trek The Next Generation forward; seen here with the first batch of the current phasers made

Steve Horch with the fully chrome-plated and 100% HUGE Hirogen rifle, as seen in Star Trek The Magazine [Oct.1999 issue]

Robert Mannion, drilling the 19th Century ring toss game; from the episode "Fair Haven"

Not everything made at HMS is 24th Century -- this is the completed backboard of the well-weathered ring toss game, made from a single piece of mahogany and then severly beaten and charred to make it look like it has been around for a couple of hundred years hanging in an Irish pub

The Borg transwarp core

And the apparatus in Voyager's engine room which the above transwarp core fits into

A Borg's arm, painted by Darcienne Sparber

From the episode "Think Tank," this is the "sawed off shotgun" of the race of bounty hunters going after the Voyager. Made using a gun from the pilot "Osiris Chronicles," these were never drawn, you only see the butt ends in the holsters

Neelix's tree, seen in his quarters

From "Bride of Chaotica," these are the multi-purpose devices used by the 1930s-dressed photonic aliens who came aboard Voyager via the "Captain Proton" simulation

The 29th Century time bomb planted aboard Voyager to blow it up several months into its maiden voyage, from "Relativity"

The badass gun Voyager was negotiating to buy from the arms dealer in "Retrospect," which was also the basis for the much larger Artificial Intelligence Bomb from the late 5th season episode "Warhead"

The Krenim lock of hair which was Annorax' only link [it was from his dead wife] to their past, from "Year of Hell"

The infamous alien paddle game, from the episode where Seven of Nine meets up with the surviving members of her old Borg unimatrix. Most props made at HMS are a team effort -- while one person may do the majority of work on a prop, generally all will have a hand in completing it.
As an example, the paddle game was made by Mike Moore, Steve Horch, Robert Mannion, Al Zequeira, and Darcienne Sparber

The always dangerous Steve Horch wielding a metal Klingon bat'leth. Most bat'leths and other bladed weapons are made of rubber for the actors' safety when doing stunts with them, metal ones are usually only used for display on a set or when an actor is only holding it

Star Trek The Movies:

The large light-up padd of the Son'a from Star Trek Insurrection, manufactured by Jim Key

Another from Insurrection, this is the wrist tricorder used on the Federation stealth-suits from the beginning of the movie

Originally made for Star Trek Insurrection and not used, this was used in the Voyager episode "Timeless" as the "15 years into the future" wrist flashlight, parts manufactured and modeled by Andrea Davis

Star Trek The Experience in Las Vegas and worldwide displays

Mike Moore and Steve Horch, at work on an original series captain's chair, for a display in Edinburgh, Scotland

The Motion Picture wrist communicator, as seen at The Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas

A display of Original Series landing party props including medical tools and instruments

The display of the original "Relics" bridge set from the Earth Tour exhibit
